With this MR we add a CHANGELOG file which follows (as an example) the guidelines set out by https://keepachangelog.com/en/1.0.0/.
Note that the current entries where pulled from git history, this is not how it should be done! I've done this as a starting point, later entries should be properly handwritten with a sufficient description.
